Certificate Program
Course Description and Prerequisites:
This hands-on Program is divided into four modules that follow Microsoft's Windows 2000/2003 Core Exam
track, with additional topics touching upon the Elective Exams. The program will incorporate Windows 2003
Server and Windows XP operating systems, with comparisons to Windows 2000.
A good grasp of any operating system, including DOS/Windows, Macintosh or UNIX, is necessary for enrollment.
Basic networking knowledge is a plus. All prospective students must meet with a program manager prior to
enrolling. br>

Module Overviews:
Module 1: Windows XP/2000 Professional
This module covers the installation, configuration and administration of Microsoft Windows XP.
Hands-on exercises and lecture topics will include: installing Windows XP/2000 Professional; using remote
desktop features to manage remote computers; managing access to files and folders; connecting to local and
network printers; configuring and managing file systems; managing hardware devices, drivers, disk devices,
display, and I/O devices; configuring network adapters. This module will prepare students to take exam
70-210.
Module 2: Windows 2003/2000 Server
This module covers the installation, configuration and administration of Microsoft Windows
2003/2000 Server. Hands-on exercises and lecture topics will include: installing Windows 2003/2000 Server;
deploying service packs; installing and configuring network services for interoperability; monitoring,
configuring and controlling access to files, folders, and shared folders; managing storage use; configuring
Windows 2003 Network Connections; configuring and monitoring remote access; installing, configuring and
monitoring terminal services; and implementing and monitoring security. Network services and resources
such as messaging, database, file and print, proxy server, firewall, Internet, intranet, remote access,
and client computer management and connectivity requirements such as connecting branch offices and individual
users in remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet will
be discussed. This module will prepare students to take exam 70-290.
Module 3: Windows 2003/2000
Network Infrastructure This module covers planning, implementing, managing, and administering
a Microsoft Windows 2003/2000 Network Infrastructure. Hands-on exercises and lecture topics will include:
plan a security, DNS, DHCP, Protocol baseline; installing, configuring and managing, DNS; installing,
configuring and managing DHCP; troubleshooting TCP/IP issues; managing other protocols; some security
issues; configuring and troubleshooting routing and remote access; install and configure network protocols;
installing and configuring WINS and IP Routing; cluster service; configure IPSec policies. This module
will prepare students to take exams 70-291 and 70-293.
Module 4: Windows 2003/2000
Directory Services
This module covers the new feature of Windows 2000-specified Active Directory Services. It will cover
implementing and administering a Microsoft Windows 2003 Directory Services Infrastructure. Hands-on
exercises and lecture topics will include: installing and configuring Active Directory; installing,
configuring and managing DNS for Active Directory; configuring, managing, and optimizing change and
configuration management, domains, trusts and organizational units; configuring Active Directory to
support Remote Installation Services (RIS); managing and monitoring Active Directory components; and
configuring and managing security in a Directory Services infrastructure; managing group policies.
This module will prepare students for exam 70-294.
