Course Description and Prerequisites:

The Internet Design and Webmaster I Certificate Program is designed for people with little or no Internet experience. The course surveys the basics of Internet technology and gives you the knowledge to tap into the power and excitement of online communication via the Internet and the World Wide Web. The course is taught in a hands-on environment where students will learn how to connect to the Internet and navigate the World Wide Web, the basics of HTML and web page authoring, and how to design and manage a web.

Students must have a good understanding or the World Wide Web.

Module Overviews:

Module 1: Introduction to the Internet
This module will cover how the Internet is organized, addressing, routing, DNS, and the use of Internet applications. It covers all basic and advanced applications including electronic mail, advanced Web and FTP searches, and legal issues associated with the Internet. Laboratories will include extensive hands-on experience with all aspects of using the Internet. This is a core course in the Internet Graduate Certificate curriculum.

Module 2: HTML and Web Pages Authoring
This course covers basic through advanced Web page authoring techniques using both HTML and WYSIWYG authoring software. HTML 4.0 will be taught including the use of Cascading Style Sheets and Dynamic HTML. Students will learn the optimal use of keywords and search engine positioning. In the lab, students will study, create and refine Web pages online, as well as learning how to create basic Web graphics.
