Network + Certification Training I

Course Description and Prerequisites:

Network + has been accepted by leading networking vendors, and included in many of their training curricula including:

  • Novell's CNE certification
  • Lotus's CLP Domino Messaging Administrator R4 Certification
  • Cisco's Networking Academy curriculum
  • Microsoft's MCSA


  • This program is designed to prepare students for the Network + Certification Exams. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to identify the layers of the OSI model, describe the features and function of network components, and have the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot basic networking hardware peripherals and protocols.

    Students must have knowledge of PC Hardware and software, knowledge of operating systems, and knowledge of file and directory concepts for acceptance into the Network + class.

    Module Overviews:

    Module 1: Media and Topologies
    Students will learn how to recognize and differentiate between the various cabling technologies, LAN topologies and the equipment required for those different media.

    Module 2: Protocols and Standards
    Students will learn to identify the various network protocols used today; cover the TCP/IP protocol suite in depth, specifically focusing on how it is usen on a LAN; and troubleshoot TCP/IP problems.

    Module 3: Network Inplementation
    Students will learn the basic capabilities of various Network Operating Systems and understand basic network operations such as backups, storage, firewall, and DNS.

    Module 4: Network Support
    Students will use the various command line utilities to troubleshoot protocol and communication problems and understand the guidelines on how to perform under different scenarios.
