Fundamentals of Multimedia
Certificate Program

Course Description and Prerequisites:

In this program students are introduced to computer-based multimedia theory, concepts and applications. Topics include desktop publishing, hypermedia, presentation graphics, graphic images, animation, sound, video, multimedia on the World Wide Web and integrated multimedia authoring techniques.

During the program, a variety of applications common to today's multimedia producer will be presented. Some packages are shareware or freeware, while others will be the same packages found in a successful multimedia studio. A multimedia authoring package, a 30-day demo of Macromedia Director 8.5, is included in the textbook. Other authoring packages will be available for trial and may be used instead of the one provided.

Each successful student in this survey course will be brought "up to speed" on the latest multimedia concepts, terms, and software types. While designed to give an overview of today's multimedia world and production methods, students in the course will gain enough practical knowledge to begin creating productions for desktop and Internet use.

A solid, working knowledge of a graphical operating system, directory management skills and software installation experience are required for enrollment.
