IT 421 Database Fundamentals using Access


Course Description and Prerequisites:

Basic data modeling concepts are introduced. Hands-on database design, implementation, and administration of single-user and shared multi-user database applications using a contemporary relational database management system.

Good PC skills are required for enrollment.

Expected Outcomes:

At the completion of the course, each successful student
1) will have produced an advanced database application using comprehensive concepts and techniques in a sequence of gradually enhanced guided projects;
2) would have demonstrated knowledge of advanced data modeling techniques, including normalization, and the ability to apply them to real world problems;
3) will have performed advanced querying of database applications;
4) will be proficient in the latest version of MS Access.

Database Design : UML, E-R Model, Relational Model, mapping
Normalization : functional dependencies, normal forms, normalization process

Visual Development and Visual User Interface Tools
