Illinois Institute of Technology offers an International IT/Business Certificate Program. The program has three main components:

1. Students take 3 courses in Information Technology or Business for one semester in the spring or fall.(9 credit hours)
2. Students take English and Cultural Awareness courses 6 hours per week for one semester. (9 CEU hours)
3. Students participate in a 6-week internship at a local company at the end of the program. Please note: Students who begin their program in June cannot participate in the internship and instead take courses in both the summer and fall semesters.

Students who successfully complete this program will receive an IT/Business Certificate from the Professional Learning Programs at IIT. Many IT courses completed in the International program can be credited toward a Master's degree in Information Technology and Management upon acceptance into the ITM program.

Business and IT courses are offered in the day and evening at our Main Campus in Chicago. Many IT courses are taught in a lab environment so that students are given the opportunity to work in a lab environment. This allows international students the chance to be comfortable with the technology while in the classroom with the instructor on hand to answer questions.

When possible, international students will study alongside American students. International students will also have the chance to make friends with American students that could last a lifetime and be useful for future business contacts. Examples of courses offered include: Embedded Systems, Multimedia, Wireless Applications, Oracle, UNIX, .NET, Network Security, Project Management, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Marketing and many more.

All six-month programs starting in the Fall and Spring include 16 weeks of classes followed by an internship. Summer courses start the first week of June with students taking courses in the Summer and Fall semesters without participating in an internship.

Students in the International Program will have six hours of English Conversation classes per week with occasional cultural field trips within the Chicago area.

Students who begin in the Fall or Spring will participate in a six-week internship at a local company after they have completed one semester of course work. The internship will be considered part of their grade in their certificate program. If working on off-site projects, students will visit the internship company at least one day per week for meetings and updates on the project. The internship gives students a first hand look at how US companies operate. It also gives students a good understanding of the work process and deadline requirements.

Companies who have participated in the internship in the past include: Motorola, Lucent Technologies, Teleprime Inc., The Bus Bank, Rosetta Wireless, TLC Animation Company, NuVant Systems Inc., AllCell, CreateASoft Inc., Calamos Investments and many more. New companies join the program each year. Internship placements are determined based on the students' qualifications and the companies' needs. Student requests for placement at particular companies are not guaranteed and companies who participate in the internship program are subject to change at any time.

As of Fall 2007, tuition is $5,200.00 per-semester, which includes tuition and the internship. (Tuition increases are common with each new calendar year.) Books, transportation and insurance fees are not included. (For students beginning in June, the tuition includes six hours of English instruction in both the summer and fall semesters and one IT or Business course in the summer along with three IT or Business courses in the fall.)

Room and board: Housing on IIT's main campus is limited. When available, students may live in the dorms at the McCormick Student Village. Cost is $950.00 per month, which includes a double occupancy room and 14 meals per week at the IIT cafeteria.
